About Marc

Marc Leger has two decades experience as a chemistry researcher, teacher and communicator, and now works in environmental regulation. He loves stories that fascinate and get to the essence of the matter. He grew up in the Maritimes, and currently lives in Toronto, where he is probably listening to 80s music right now, as he writes.

Three things for which to write three things about Marc

Three things about Marc, the person:

  1. I was born and raised in the Maritimes, and I lived in Ireland for awhile. I now live and work in Toronto.
  2. I enjoy reading and telling stories, I enjoy data and numbers, and I love telling the stories embedded in good data.
  3. I explore new things as much as I can, as I think that breadth of knowledge is important. I am that person who read through the Wikipedia article of a movie after I see it.

Three things about Marc, the scientist:

  1. I have a doctorate in analytical chemistry, and spent many wonderful years doing research, teaching university chemistry, and consulting.
  2. I was incredibly fortunate to find a graduate research program in chemometrics, which combined my interests in analytical chemistry, mathematics, statistics and computer programming.
  3. I now work in government in environmental regulation, promoting sustainable development, environmental protection and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Three things about Marc, the writer:

  1. I have written throughout my life – essays, short stories, laboratory reports, theses, briefing notes, articles, and memos targeted to researchers, investors, managers, and government officials. I believe that a good writer adapts their message effectively to any audience.
  2. I am currently working on a Certificate in Creative Writing at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.
  3. I write both creative non-fiction and fiction, and I want this website to become an outlet for some of this work.
